“We’re striving to do something different, to look forward rather than back, to be free from the shadows of our inspiration and to continue, with our voice, to make our mark.” Jared Leto, 30 Seconds To Mars
Fans of 30 Seconds To Mars have been waiting for this one for a long, long time. Finally, the wait is over. 30 Seconds To Mars will head to Australia this May for the first time ever in their eight year career.
Fronted by Jared Leto (uh huh, the Hollywood star) and backed by the superb Shannon Leto, Tomo Milicevic and Matt Wachter, 30 Seconds To Mars will bring their explosive live show to Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
Overseas 30 Seconds To Mars are something of a phenomenon. Since releasing their self-titled debut in 2002, the band has moved from one strength to another, rapidly expanding their dedicated fanbase in the process. Whilst their debut album sold an impressive 100,000 copies, their follow-up A Beautiful Lie sold over 1 million copies – certified platinum status in the US. Furthermore, their outstanding single "The Kill (Bury Me)" has broken the record for the longest-running hit on the Billboard Modern Rock airplay chart, remaining there for more than 50 weeks.
Now, 30 Seconds To Mars are taking a feverish hold over the Australian public. A Beautiful Lie (out now through Virgin/ EMI) has also struck a chord Down Under, with the recently released “The Kill” sitting pretty in the ARIA Singles Chart for 13 weeks straight and cracking the Top 20. “From Yesterday”, which is scheduled for release here on March 24, will be the second single lifted from the album, and judging from its reception overseas, looks set to emulate The Kill’s success.
30 Seconds To Mars are as much about visual content as they are musical. Ask anyone who’s seen their brilliant film clips for “The Kill” and “From Yesterday” and they’ll agree. That’s why 30 Seconds To Mars are not to be missed live.
“To describe Jared as animated would be an understatement. He’s mastered his role as a rock star perfectly; walking across the stage as if he’s in no hurry; pouting his lips, head tilted back, with his arms out reached – like he’s possessed by the soul of Jim Morrison. Jared knows how to work a stage and an audience and provide a damn good show…”
- Manchester Evening News, January 2007
