HEADLINE SHOWS CONFIRMED FOR SYDNEY & MELBOURNE IN FEBRUARY
Frontier Touring and I Oh You are excited to confirm headline shows for Drenge this February playing Sydney’s Goodgod on Tuesday 4 February and Melbourne’s The Tote on Wednesday 5 February.
Already confirmed for Laneway Festival dates across the country, the brothers from the Peak District in England will treat Sydney and Melbourne audiences to their powerful and visceral rock’n’roll.
Having released their self-titled debut album in August this year in Australia (out now through Liberator Music), this will be 22-year-old Eoin on vocals and guitar and 20-year-old Rory on drums, first visit down under.
Drenge was recorded over a two year period – a great deal of it penned during Eoin’s gap year where he questioned the meaning of his life and claims to have “hated everything” at the time; songs like ‘People In Love Make Me Feel Yuck’, ‘I Wanna Break You In Half’ certainly suggest a mirror of that vibe while ‘Bloodsports’ and ‘Backwaters’ juxtaposition anger and delight in the one breath.
While Drenge has somewhat of a cult-following, they are earning international praise not only from media and fans but also rock stars like fellow Northerners the Arctic Monkeys who they recently shared the stage with at the iTunes Festival in London.
Since their debut album release, Drenge has headlined shows in the UK, played on the bills of major festivals; Glastonbury 2013, Reading and Leeds Festivals, and also performed live on BBC Two’s flagship music show Later...With Jools Holland alongside Kanye West, Sting, Kings Of Leon and Lorde.
“Lo-fi and no frills, gloriously raw and gritty, you can almost smell the rock and roll coming off Drenge”
– The Music
‘Drenge make the kind of music that sounds at its absolute best in the confines of a loud, sweaty, beer drenched moshpit’
– Later...With Jools Holland
“Drenge are true to their phonics, subjecting listeners to a gnarly, ultra-funky – and that’s in the stinky sense, not the Nile Rodgers sense – aural pummelling.”
– NME
“Drenge whirl through tar thick clouds of sleazy fingered acid burnouts left behind on a dusty trail.”
– Hysteria
“I was crazy impressed with their fuzzed out crooner style punk rock about dog meat and skulls and sh*t.’
– Shane Parsons, DZ Deathrays
Joining Drenge is Brisbane two-piece The Creases who, after recording just two songs in their suburban share house, were picked up by Rough Trade UK to release their song ‘I Won’t Wait’ on 7 inch vinyl and subsequently have gone on to support the likes of Peace, The Preatures and Jungle Giants.
This is Drenge’s first ever visit to Australia. Make them feel welcome and treat your brain to an aural explosion of distorted, dirty and completely catchy riffs from this electrifying and exciting two-piece in the intimacy of GoodGod or The Tote this February.
