FMF 2014 | Eric Prydz withdraws from Perth show
Mar 03, 2014And we’re off! The first stop of 2014’s Future Music Festival kicked off yesterday at our new home at Brisbane’s RNA Showgrounds, with thousands of punters feasting on an absolutely massive line-up of dance action under gorgeous, clear blue skies.
Highlights? Where to begin! Local lads Knife Party floored the festival with their Haunted House Arena, a stunning stage set-up featuring over 100 lasers – you really gotta see this. French poptastic four-piece Phoenix had fans in the palm of their hand with hooks and cinematic visuals; Chase & Status saw punters begging for more; while closing the festival was the mind-blowing headline debut of deadmau5. Add in killer performances from Rudimental (one of the biggest crowds of the day), Macklemore & Ryan Lewis (“Thrift Shop” is a huge jam), as well as sonic wizardry and huge productions from the likes of Hardwell, Sven Vath, R3hab, Kaskade and more, FMF 2014 it was absolutely killer. The day ran smoothly and organisers would like to thank our Brisbane friends for coming – see you next year!
Much to everyone’s regret, organisers also wish to announce that unfortunately Eric Prydz is unable to perform at today’s FMF in Perth due to illness. Both FMF HQ and Eric’s team are sincerely disappointed, but re-assure fans Eric is looking forward to completing the remainder of his dates across the country – including a top secret, ultra exclusive private house party – which could be at your joint! Head to inthemix.com.au ASAP to win, entries close 10 am Monday 3 March.

PHARRELL WILLIAMS | 'Happy' legend joins the line up of Future Music Festival + announces Brisbane and Perth sideshows
Jan 22, 2014Summer’s biggest line-up just got a whole lot hotter! Future Music and Frontier Touring are thrilled to announce that one of the most influential and groundbreaking artists in modern music, Pharrell Williams, will tour Australia in March as a headlining addition to 2014’s Future Music Festival in Sydney, Melbourne and Adelaide.
“Australia is such a fun place for music – I’ve always had amazing experiences there. Looking forward to seeing all the fans come out for Future Music Festival – can’t wait to perform and show them my gratitude.”
Williams has two colossal award ceremonies coming up: The Grammys on Sunday 26 January (where he’ll celebrate an incredible seven nominations, including Producer of the Year), and the 86th Academy Awards, which take place on Sunday 2 March. Williams is nominated for Best Original Song (‘HAPPY’ from Despicable Me 2) at the Oscars – “I used to stare at the TV as a child watching your actors and favourite actresses take it home,” he told ABC in America regarding the Oscars, “I cannot believe we get to go.” Future Music Festival wishes him all the best!
As Pharrell will be attending the Oscars, Brisbane and Perth fans will be treated to two special sideshows. Future Music Festival ticket holders in these markets will be offered an exclusive discount to the sideshows via an emailed pre-sale offer.
“It’s been 30 years since ‘Thriller’ first showed us how ambitious a pop promo could be ... 2013 has belonged to Pharrell.” – NME
Singer, rapper, producer, fashion designer, entrepreneur: is there anything Pharrell Williams can’t do? The 40-year-old was behind the two biggest tracks of 2013: Robin Thicke’s gigantic ‘Blurred Lines’ and Daft Punk’s mammoth ‘Get Lucky’. With millions of copies sold, Williams holds the honour of being only the 12th artist in US Billboard chart history to simultaneously hold both the number one and two positions. Then, in November 2013 he rewrote the rules yet again, delivering another chart-topper in solo single ‘Happy’.
In another world first, Williams also unveiled a stunning 24-hour video clip to ‘Happy’ (view it here), starring Magic Johnson, Steve Carrell, Jamie Foxx and Jimmy Kimmel. To date, in Australia ‘Happy’ has gone platinum and spent two weeks at the top of the ARIA Singles Chart, while it’s also reached number one in the UK, USA, and countries such as Belgium, New Zealand, Ireland, France and beyond.
GQ Magazine’s ‘Hitmaker of the Year’ is currently working on his highly anticipated second solo album, due out via Columbia/Sony Music Australia. It will be the follow-up to 2006’s In My Mind. Williams is also currently slated to do production work on brand new cuts by Ed Sheeran, Jennifer Hudson, Major Lazer, T.I., Pusha T, and Busta Rhymes. Come April 2014, he’ll headline the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in California.
From Mystikal’s ‘Shake Ya Ass’ to Snoop’s ‘Drop It Like It’s Hot’, Williams has stamped his imprint on an amazing number of hits. Together with Chad Hugo, he makes up one half of production duo The Neptunes – the Grammy-winning pair enlisted by a virtual who’s-who of music’s biggest names: Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, Usher, Britney Spears, No Doubt, Madonna and many more.
He’s also the frontman of N*E*R*D, an outfit formed in 2001 and responsible for dance floor classics such as “Rock Star”, ‘She Wants To Move’” and ‘Hot N’ Fun’, the group behind highly acclaimed LPs such as 2004’s Fly Or Die.
Williams’ creative aesthetic doesn’t stop at music. He’s designed jewellery for Louis Vuitton; collaborated on furniture with Domeau & Peres and Emmanuel Perrotin Galerie; created bicycles and more. In 2013 Williams celebrated the 10th anniversary of his Billionaire Boys Club / Icecream clothing brand, and he’s also launched his creative colletive, i am OTHER, which includes an original content YouTube channel, www.iamother.com. Williams is also a partner in Bionic Yarn, a two-year-old textile firm dedicated to developing environmentally sustainable fabrics.
From writing/producing in the studio to scoring The Amazing Spider-Man 2 alongside Oscar winner Hans Zimmer, Pharrell Williams is the busiest man in music! “The impetus for all of my music is ‘What is missing?’” he told Billboard. “I don’t want to do what sounds like other people... Joy is something that the world needs more of right now.” Check out Pharrell Williams performing ‘Happy’ on ‘The Ellen Show’ here.

FUTURE MUSIC FESTIVAL | Sven Väth brings Cocoon Stage to Australia | special guest Luciano added to lineup
Oct 16, 2013Following the resounding success of its debut at Future Music Festival in March this year, we’re proud to announce the undisputed heavyweight champion of the underground and king of Ibiza, Sven Väth, will bring his Cocoon Stage in all its techno glory to FMF 2014... and with a special guest: Chilean-born star Luciano!
“Cocoon never disappoints... the best underground house and techno party in Ibiza.” – Resident Advisor
One of the most charismatic DJs about, Luciano is behind the acclaimed Cadenza label, the Fabric 41 mix for London superclub Fabric and his infamous club nights “Cadenza Vagabundos”. In his early DJ days “disgruntled rock fans stubbed out cigarettes” on his beloved vinyl, but by 21 Luciano was playing to thousands at Santiago’s famous Love Parade. At 2011’s 14th Annual DJ Awards he took out not only Best Tech-House DJ but also Best Track of the Year for his remix of Jamie Woon’s “Lady Luck”. With six years in residence at Ibiza’s notorious Circo Loco, it’s no surprise Luciano’s silky blend of barebones techno and hot-blooded Latin rhythms have made him an international superstar. See: www.facebook.com/lucianocadenza
Sven Väth is coming straight off the back of another hugely successful season at Amnesia in Ibiza, and 2014 marks his sixth season at FMF. He’s carefully curated what is unquestionably one of the biggest techno line-ups ever to grace our shores.
Joining Sven and Luciano on the Cocoon Stage is an all-star cast of FMF 2014 acts: Dubfire, Maya Jane Coles and Guy Gerber live. Sven is also keeping his eyes on the Aussies, and will be adding local artists to the Cocoon Stage line-up in each city. (Note: Adelaide will enjoy each Cocoon artist on one of FMF 2014’s regular stages.)
"It’s been an amazing six years and I really feel proud to be part of Future Music Festival,” says Väth. “I’ve watched it grow exponentially over the years, and we couldn’t have been happier with the success of our Cocoon Stage. I’m more excited than ever to bring it back to life in 2014 alongside some of my friends. Get ready Australia – it’s going to be huge!”

Just 5kms from the city, site upgrades include a six-level grandstand complete with outstanding views from indoor and outdoor terraces and seating. The amphitheatre will knock your socks off – as will our massive, 440sq feet bumper super screen! (That’s a huge 40m wide x 11m high, fyi). Rounding out our epic set of headliners is homegrown heroes Knife Party, who’ll be hosting their fearsome Haunted House arena production as debuted at Reading and Leeds festivals in the UK and Ibiza this season. Already boasting an energetic, awe-inspiring live performance ethic, this unstoppable duo take their live show to new, spine-tingling heights. Renowned for sets jam-packed with adrenaline, masterful dubstep tricks and epic bass drops that have sent crowds bonkers around the world, don’t miss them tearing it up as they return to home soil.
Next up are acts who’ll wet even the most discerning party cannibal’s appetite. After absolutely smashing it at FMF 2013 and with a run of sold-out national headline shows happening this week, London-based four-piece Rudimental will be coming back to do it all over again! Be sure to catch their blockbuster live show at FMF 2014! Hot off the back of his new single “Children of the Sun”, fellow Londoner Tinie Tempah will also be in attendance. Having gone from the underground to international sensation in a few short years, he’s sure to blow the roof off. Rounding out the trio of huge UK live acts is Chase & Status, who’ve been heralded as the most exciting producers in the UK today. These deities of the drum and bass scene will be performing cuts from their upcoming new album Brand New Machine, out in October.
Baauer meanwhile is going to make you “Harlem Shake”, with the super-hit awarded both Top Dance Song and Top EDM song at this year’s Billboard Awards. Chuckie will be getting the crowd pulsing with his crazy FX and hypnotic climaxes. Two of Europe’s hottest names will also be getting tribal with FMF in 2014: 23-year-old Russian DJ/producer Arty, and the youngest person to ever reach #1 on Beatport. With his massive track “Animals”, Martin Garrix has shown that even at the young age of 17 he’s definitely one of the future heavyweights of the electronic scene.
Deep in the badlands, two exciting new live shows have emerged and they’re ready to show you what they’re made of. Signed by none other than the godfather of drum’n’bass, Andy C, Sub Focus has been unstoppable on his way to the top. His massive club hits “X-Ray”, “Airplane” and “Timewarp”, and his truly unmissable live show, have pushed him into the mainstream spotlight. Fellow drum’n’bass heavyweight Netsky has a “liquid funk style” that is truly unique. His iconic first release, Memory Lane, and its self-titled follow-up were met with worldwide praise and caught the attention of the industry’s tastemakers. No stranger to the EDM game, Kaskade knows how it’s done. He’s been hailed by The New York Times as the “new face of EDM”, and named America’s #1 DJ by DJ Times and Pioneer in 2013 for the second time. For an injection of crazy partying and with a reputation for on-stage stunts (including a full marching band onstage at 2011’s Electric Daisy Carnival!), plus pumping tracks like “Unleash the F*cking Dada”, Dada Life are a sight to be seen! Setting up their own sovereignty ‘Dada Land’, we’ll follow them to whatever newfound lands they go.
Grammy-nominated uber-talent Paul van Dyk will also be in attendance at FMF 2014. A superstar of the industry, he’s one of the most respected DJs in the world, the kind of guy you’d take home to meet your mum… so long as she likes award-winning trance music. Markus Schulz will also be working the festival crowd with his hand-crafted blend of progressive, trance and house, while ATB’s epic club hits like “9pm (Till I Come)”, “Don’t Stop” and “Let U Go” will be heard across the country for the first time since 2008.
This line up has more of the world’s hottest new EDM talent than you can poke a tiki torch at: R3hab, Monsta, Adventure Club, Carnage, Bassjackers and the triple deadly delight of Deniz Koyu, Dannicand Dyro will all be jumping in FMF’s open top van for our musical expedition. Hold onto your synthesizers guys, it’s sure to be a thumpy ride!
Future Music Festival ambassador and favourite Sven Vath will be returning for an impressive sixth year in a row. Don’t miss the “jet-black, polished chrome techno” of Dubfire, and lady of prodigious talent Maya Jane Coles. Last but most certainly not least, we have Parisian native and Kanye West co-producer Gesaffelstein live, alongside French brother in bromance Brodinski. Innovative Canadian hip-hop artist Kaytranada, ludicrously talented producer duo Gorgon City, unorthodox nonconformist Guy Gerber and techno mastermind Paul Kalkbrenner round out 2014’s epic FMF bill.
Flying the Australian flag at this year’s Future Music Festival are electronica extraordinaires Cut Copy, as well as up-and-coming local DJs Timmy Trumpet, Walden, Tenzin, Helena, Stafford Brothers and Will Sparks. Keep your ears to the ground as we lu-WOW you with these guys, who represent some of the freshest and most innovative talent currently on the Australian scene.
From Sahara sounds to jungle jams, we’ve drummed up an animal cracker of a line up that reflects what’s happening in music right now. Don't forget to pack your party; this safari is far out... Lions and tigers and gnomes, oh my!
Future Music Festival is also proud to announce a move to two new venues in 2014 – Brisbane’s iconic RNA Showgrounds and the magical Adelaide Showgrounds! Festivalgoers are in for a better FMF experience than ever before, thanks to a wealth of new indoor and outdoor stages to choose from, so we party rain, hail or shine. Sydneysiders meanwhile will experience a major overhaul at Randwick, thanks to an amazing $150 million venue facelift! Think huge open expanses, state of the art new infrastructure featuring a five-level grandstand, great new VIP and FIRST CLASS facilities, and the epic debut of the theatre of the horse arena.
The festival will also have a major focus on enhanced, state of the art audio and will deliver spine-tingling light shows and crystal clear sound, using new technologies such as audio mapping. In 2014 each and every punter will soak up their favourite artists loud and clear, no matter what stage they’re performing on or where they’re dancing!
