American rock superstars the Eagles have arrived in Australia in preparation for the Australian and New Zealand legs of their record breaking ‘History Of The Eagles’ Tour.  The tour commences on Wednesday 18 February in Perth and will then visit Melbourne, Hanging Rock, Sydney, Hunter Valley, Brisbane and Auckland.

Returning to Australia for the first time since 2010 and New Zealand since 1995 and performing songs never before played in Australia and New Zealand, the ‘History of the Eagles’ tour will see the band performing 14 major concerts, including two massive stadium dates in Auckland.   In total, close to 250,000 Aussie and Kiwi fans are expected to attend the ‘History of the Eagles’ tour, a touring concept spawned from the release of the critically acclaimed documentary of the same name, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival and is now available to purchase on DVD/Blu-ray.

The ‘History of the Eagles’ tour launched in July 2013 and ranked as one of the biggest tours of 2014 by Pollstar magazine.    Perth will be the first show of the world tour for 2015.  Previous Eagles’ tours of Australia have broken box office records and have garnered rave reviews.

Australia and New Zealand have once again proven their love for one of the world’s biggest bands, the Eagles. Nine shows are now sold out on their upcoming ‘History of the Eagles’ tour and to meet overwhelming demand, third and final shows have been confirmed for Melbourne and Sydney.

Eagles will be taking to the Rod Laver Arena stage for the third time on Thursday 26 February, adding to the two shows already sold out in Melbourne, while Sydneysiders will be treated to a second show at Allphones Arena on Friday 6 March, bringing the total number of New South Wales shows on the tour to four.

The ‘History of the Eagles’ global tour kicked off in July 2013 and hits Australia and New Zealand in February and March 2015. The legendary ‘Hotel California’ group will perform indoor arena dates in Perth, Melbourne and Sydney as well as special outdoor concerts in the Hunter Valley, Auckland and Victoria’s iconic Hanging Rock.

Adding to the already high levels of anticipation for the band’s Hunter Valley and Hanging Rock performances; we’re excited to confirm that two of Australia’s finest female performers – Kasey Chambers and Melody Pool – will be joining the band as special guests for these outdoor shows.

Kasey Chambers is an Australian country-music veteran with eight critically acclaimed studio albums under her belt and ninth album Bittersweet due for release on August 29 (through Essence Music). Across her illustrious career, she has been awarded nine ARIA Awards and nine APRA Awards amongst countless other accolades.

Latest release Bittersweet is Chambers’ first solo album in four years and was recorded in Byron Bay’s iconic Studios 301 with respected producer Nick DiDia (Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam, Powderfinger). Those lucky enough to attend the Eagles’ Hope Estate and Hanging Rock shows will be treated to new tracks like ‘Wheelbarrow’ as well as fan favourites including ‘Not Pretty Enough’ and ‘True Colours’.

Also joining the Eagles for their Australian outdoor shows will be Melody Pool. A young artist with an old soul, Melody captured the attention of fans and critics the world over with debut release The Hurting Scene (out now through Liberation Music). Filled with heartfelt tracks like ‘Somebody You’ve Never Met Before’, ‘Henry’ and ‘Xavier’, the album is described as collection of songs that will “break your heart and soothe your soul”.

Melody has spent the past twelve months touring the world including sold out tours in UK and Europe with The Milk Carton Kids and an appearance at Nashville’s Americana Music Festival. She will be kicking off the new year in style, sharing the stage on the ‘History of the Eagles’ Australian tour.

With nine shows already sold out and a pair of incredible special guests now confirmed for the Australian outdoor shows, there can be no doubt that this is going to be one of the biggest tours of 2015.

After unprecedented demand – tickets to the Eagles’ first announced show flying out the door in mere minutes, with the second date not far behind – Eagles will perform two huge shows at Mt Smart Stadium on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 March 2015. NZ fans have been waiting for over 20 years to hear the band’s iconic hits, which members Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Joe Walsh and Timothy B Schmit will perform in an intimate, three-hour career retrospective. It was the creation of an acclaimed Eagles documentary which first spurred the legendary group to head back out on the road. Eagles-mania struck the Sundance Film Festival in January 2013 when the band attended the premiere of History of the Eagles – The Story Of an American Band, a documentary made by Academy Award®-winning filmmaker Alison Elwood. Screened in two parts on Showtime in the US and released as a top-selling DVD, after remixing songs for the big screen and unearthing original 16 and 24-track recordings of ‘70s album cuts it soon became clear to the group that it was time to take their historic harmonies back out in front of their fans. “I was really surprised and reminded of how much fun we had,” Glenn Frey told Billboard, about working on the documentary’s soundtrack. “It’s the story of an American band, but it’s also the story of the songs we wrote and what those songs did to [people]. Eagles’ retrospective “History Of the Eagles” world tour kicked off on July 6, 2013 in Louisville, Kentucky, and continued throughout arenas until Christmas. In January 2014 the band re-opened Los Angeles’ venue the Forum with a 28-song set (arranged chronologically) which left critics raving.

“The emphasis, especially early on, was gently swaying country-rock made for clubs and backyard barbecues; on the other end, ‘Hotel California’ provided a climactic finish not just in the scope of the song, but in its ability to engage the crowd of 13,700 and fill the arena with sound.” – Billboard

Now, fans in the Netherlands, Belgium, England, Germany, Switzerland and Italy will get their turn to experience the band’s ultimate set from May-July ‘14, before Eagles return Stateside for further arena Fall dates from August-October. They’ll then head down under to Australia and New Zealand audiences in February/March 2015.

Formed in Los Angeles in 1971, the Eagles’ seven albums – Eagles (1972), Desperado (1973), On The Border (1974), One Of These Nights (1975), Hotel California (1976), The Long Run (1979) and a 28-year-wait for Long Road Out of Eden (2007) – have sold millions of copies worldwide, the Recording Industry of America (RIAA) revealing they’ve sold over 83 million albums in the USA alone.

The band re-teamed for a huge live album in 1994, Hell Freezes Over, and a three-year tour, which broke records worldwide and cemented the group’s place in music history. 2007’s Long Road Out of Eden was a defining disc, with track ‘I Dreamed There Was No War’ winning a Grammy for Best Pop Instrumental Performance, taking the Eagles on tour to countries as far flung as South Africa, China and Dubai. Inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1998, the year following the Eagles were honoured by RIAA for ‘Best Selling Album of the Century’ for compilation Their Greatest Hits (1971–1975).  Notably this album remains the highest selling album of all time in the USA.
