JENNY LEWIS | Special guest Fraser A. Gorman joins the bill for exclusive Metro Theatre Sydney show
Jun 26, 2015With tickets to her only Australian headline show on Wednesday 22 July at Sydney’s Metro Theatre selling quickly, it’s shaping to be one very special performance from acclaimed Los Angeles singer/songwriter Jenny Lewis.
With less than one month to go, Frontier Touring is pleased to announce that supporting the ‘Just One Of The Guys’ and ‘She’s Not Me’ singer is talented Melbourne troubadour Fraser A. Gorman whose country-tinged, Americiana-influenced debut album Slow Gum (out 3 July via Milk! Records) has been winning accolades across the seas and here at home:
‘“Shiny Gun” is a joyously breezy knees-up of twanging guitars, fiddles and sumptuous harmonies.” – Q Magazine
‘A confident debut, a record that is greater still than the sum of its impressive parts’ – Uncut, 8/10
‘Gorman is a charming writer and performer’ – Consequence Of Sound
‘The singer-songwriter and part-time carpenter makes it easy to imagine his younger self hanging posters of Bob Dylan and Hank Williams on his bedroom wall rather than more typical teenage idols like David Bowie or Kurt Cobain … Like country’s luminaries, the 24-year-old Melbourne resident has a knack for vivid storytelling.’ – NME, 8/10
Local indie label Milk! is also the home to Courtney Barnett, who makes an appearance in Gorman’s video for lead single ‘Shiny Gun’ – watch the clip here.

JENNY LEWIS announces exclusive Sydney headline show!
Jun 11, 2015'Lewis is a deft songwriter as open about her flaws and insecurities as she is about her conquests and exploits, and her skill as a lyricist is an ability to connect through resonant lines, cut through razor-sharp emotions and vividly restage old scenarios.' – Los Angeles Times
'It’s the new songs that best frame how self-assuredly Lewis turns close-angle shots of her imperfect world into great pop … who wouldn't want to be Lewis?' – The Guardian
Frontier Touring is pleased to announce the one and only Australian headline show by Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Jenny Lewis – Wednesday 22 July at Newtown Social Club, Sydney. One of the indie scene’s most lovable and talented performers, Lewis is headed down under to perform at Byron Bay’s Splendour In The Grass festival, while she’s also supporting Ryan Adams in his sold-out Melbourne and Sydney tour dates. This special, one-off Sydney performance is Aussie fans’ last chance to catch Lewis up on stage, with all other shows sold out!
Lewis is visiting Australia off the back of her acclaimed third solo LP, The Voyager (out now on Warner Music Australia).
The Voyager’s rootsy, golden glow comes courtesy of Lewis and the artists she chose to produce various tracks, including Ryan Adams (who, alongside Mike Viola, produced all but three of the tracks), Beck, and Lewis’ longtime collaborator Johnathan Rice. The Voyager finds the always relatable songwriter at her sharp-witted best, singing about her recent experiences with honesty and incisiveness.
The Voyager earned ‘Best of 2014’ accolades from Rolling Stone, TIME, Spin, Billboard, The Guardian, American Songwriter, Stereogum, Paste, and many more, while its singles ‘She’s Not Me’ and ‘Just One Of The Guys’ (and the latter’s gender-bending music video), appeared on year End Top Songs lists from The New York Times, Slant, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, Pitchfork, and more.
Lewis’s brand new single, ‘She’s Not Me’ is out now, and comes armed with a winning video paying homage to her child actress past on the set of shows such as The Golden Girls – (watch here; 1.1m views and counting). Directed by Lewis, the clip features friends such as Portlandia actor Fred Armisen, Saturday Night Live comic Vanessa Bayer, Shoshanna from Girls (aka Zosia Mamet), Leo Fitzpatrick (Kids, Broad City), and Canadian singer Feist… who appears dressed as a priest.
Thanks to her breezy, effortless pop, Lewis first achieved musical fame via the band Rilo Kiley, which broke up in 2011 after more than 13 years together. She was last on our shores back in 2011 with her project Jenny & Johnny, a collaboration with Johnathan Rice, the pair penning several songs for the soundtrack to the 2014 film Song One, starring Anne Hathaway.
At California’s recent Coachella festival – her sixth time playing at the event – Lewis brought special guests Haim up on stage in what the Desert Sun labelled “a fantastic set”… watch the musicians perform together in the footage here.
The Las Vegas-born songwriter sings with implausible cool and sincerity, from campfire ballads to pop odes on love, loss, and everything in between. Whether enlisting stars like Kirsten Stewart and Anne Hathaway in her videos to gracing stages worldwide in that distinctive rainbow suit, Jenny Lewis is truly one of a kind.
