Touring Australia’s East Coast solo + acoustic this March
with special guest Mike Waters (Cronulla & Newcastle only)
Much loved singer-songwriter, multiple ARIA Award winner and humanitarian Ben Lee returns home to Australia next month for a very diverse series of events from workshops to lectures and a few live shows thrown in for good measure.
Having toured Australia twice in 2015 with his band to sold out audiences, Lee will go it alone this time performing solo dates this March in Sydney, Newcastle and the Gold Coast.
2015 also saw Ben celebrate the release of his album Love Is The Great Rebellion, the tenth long-player from the prolific artist and his first album since signing with Warner Bros. Records in February 2015. Led by charming single ‘Big Love’, the iconic ‘Catch My Disease’ singer returned to the familiar, unabashed sound he’s loved for – upbeat, heart-on-sleeve pop. It was a family affair too: Lee’s wife, actress Ione Skye, makes an appearance, as does his five-year-old daughter Goldie and his father-in-law, ’60s folk icon Donovan.
Lee’s insightful lyrics & adept pop compositions – heard on gems like ‘Cigarettes Will Kill You’, ‘Gamble Everything For Love’, ‘Running With Scissors’, ‘Love Me Like The World Is Ending’ and countless others – have made him one of the Australia’s most identifiable and celebrated pop-smiths.
To record the predominant pop of Love Is The Great Rebellion, Lee reteamed with acclaimed US producer Brad Wood (Liz Phair, Something For Kate), producer of Lee’s 4x ARIA-winning, double-platinum Awake Is The New Sleep (2005). The record hit #5 on the ARIA Album Chart and earned Lee a place in history with trophies for Song of the Year and Most Performed Australian Work at the 2005 APRA Awards and the #2 spot on triple j’s Hottest 100.
Accompanying Ben at his Cronulla and Newcastle shows will be Melbourne via Adelaide songwriter Mike Waters. Waters’ demo peaked at #1 on the triple j Unearthed chart and was their most played track in early 2015, garnering interest from both local and international industry tastemakers. The talented performer got down to business and released his debut EP LIFE in May 2015:
‘Infectiously upbeat’ - Rolling Stone Australia
‘This is such a sweet song! Deceptively sweet! He boozes. He lies. He steals. And he makes great folk pop music!!!!’ – Perez Hilton
‘His voice is angelic, in a way that makes an audience deafeningly silent’ – The Music
From Ben’s days fronting Noise Addict as a teen (admired by Thurston Moore and Mike D), to records about experiences with psychedelic brews (2013’s Ayahuasca: Welcome to the Work), Ben Lee is a one of a kind. Don’t miss the opportunity of seeing him perform in these intimate venues this March!
