ABOUT: '8 SONGS IN 8 WEEKS' arrow
ABOUT THE SHOW
Gillian Cosgriff is an award-winning musical comedian who sets herself a challenge to create one new song a week, for eight weeks. Now, for the first time, Perth will see the results of this crazy songwriting experiment - as eight brand new, hopefully funny, and not-quite-finished songs are debuted on stage at Fringe World.
8 Songs in 8 Weeks is a glorious look into inspiration, creativity, and show-making that comes from one of Australia's most acclaimed musical comedians. You can follow her progress week by week through social media and watch the whole thing (hopefully) come together in time for Fringe World. (Or at least enjoy watching the wheels fall off...)
★★★★★ ‘Warm, witty and engaging...expect great things from Gillian Cosgriff.’ - The West Australian
★★★★★ ‘This Queen of Cabaret is sure to go from strength to strength’ - Theatre People
★★★★★ ‘There’s not a single gag that doesn’t land, nor a hair out of place. Cosgriff is like a cabaret ninja...and man does she know her way around these musical nunchucks.’ - Herald Sun
Gillian graduated from the Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts in 2010 with a Bachelor of Music Theatre and has since garnered accolades and rave reviews for her unique style of musical comedy. Her second solo show This Is Why We Can’t Have Nice Things won the Best Cabaret Award at Melbourne Fringe 2013 and a Green Room Award for Best Original Songs. Her 2014 cover of Pharrell Williams’ song Happy has received close to 300,000 views on YouTube with Pharrell himself taking to the internet to recommend it.
Gillian’s television credits include Offspring, House Husbands, Fat Tony & Co., and Ricketts Lane. Theatre credits include The Pirates of Penzance, A 3-Handed Mikado, Loving Repeating, and Company. Gillian was a backing vocalist for Kate Miller-Heidke’s 2012 album, Nightflight, and her performance in the improvised web series Written It Down (featured on Funny or Die and ABC’s Fresh Blood) saw her win Best Actress at the LA Webfest Awards 2014.
