MIDNIGHT OIL add 'One For The Oceans' in Fremantle, WA
Oct 12, 2017Midnight Oil have added another special benefit concert to their current Australian tour, presented by Frontier Touring.
‘One For The Oceans’ will see the band play their iconic album 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 in its entirety for the first time ever in this country, along with an hour of other Oils classics.
This one-off gig will happen in the intimate outdoor coastal setting of the Fremantle Arts Centre on Sunday October 29. Every cent of profit will go to various charities that work in the areas of reef protection and climate change including AMCS.org.au. It will happen just a few days after an October 24 National Press Club address in Canberra by frontman, Peter Garrett entitled “Trashing our crown jewel: The fate of the Great Barrier Reef in the coal age.”
‘One For The Oceans’ will be staged with the support of official media partners Fremantle Festival, Mix 94.5 and The West Australian. Special guests will be local six piece - and triple j Unearthed favourites - POW! Negro.
Fans are formally advised to only buy tickets by following the official links on the Frontier Touring or Midnight Oil websites to avoid getting ripped off by scalpers.
As part of the licensing provisions any patrons who are not yet 18 years of age will only be admitted if they are carrying a valid ticket and accompanied by an adult carrying photo ID.
City of Fremantle Mayor Brad Pettitt said:
“Midnight Oil’s decision to play a unique concert right here at WA’s favourite Arts Centre is further evidence that Fremantle truly is WA’s event capital. The cause is one that’s very important to Fremantle so we’re thrilled to support it. This will be a gig to remember.”
Midnight Oil’s actions on behalf of the Great Barrier Reef in particular - and ocean degradation in general - kicked off last Friday in Cairns with a special visit to Vlasoff Cay (pictured below) and a smaller fundraising show at the local Tanks Arts Centre. That gig was filmed by MAX and recorded by Triple M for broadcast over coming weeks alongside interviews with reef scientists and other local experts.
The band is currently readying themselves for sold out shows in the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane. The Great Circle 2017 Tour will wind its way from the Pacific Ocean around to the Indian Ocean over the following fortnight before this special show in Freo on Sunday, October 29.
The 10 - 1 album - as it’s typically called - took Midnight Oil to a whole new level after it landed in 1982.
An utterly original piece of work featuring songs like “US Forces”, “Power & The Passion”, “Read About It” and “Short Memory” it stayed on the Australian charts for 171 weeks after its release.
‘One For The Oceans’ will be the first time Australian fans have ever got to hear the whole album played in full on a concert stage.

MIDNIGHT OIL | Limited extra tickets released across the country | Third & final Melbourne concert + special Great Barrier Reef event revealed
Aug 04, 2017With less than two months until the homecoming leg of The Great Circle 2017 World Tour, the first Midnight Oil tickets started shipping to Australian fans today. To coincide with this moment the band and their promoters, Frontier Touring, have just dropped a few big surprises.
Firstly they revealed that Midnight Oil will do a third and final concert at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Wednesday November 15. Pre-sale tickets to this new Melbourne show will be available to Frontier Members (sign up here) and Midnight Oil Subscribers (sign up here) from noon AEST on Tuesday August 8. General Public tickets will then go on sale at noon AEST on Friday August 11. Tickets for each of the first two shows at this iconic venue sold out within minutes so fans are advised to get in early. Melbourne folk-punks The Smith Street Band will be special guests, with Yarra Valley R&B/soul combo The Teskey Brothers kicking off proceedings.
Oils fans around the rest of Australia also got some great news today. As part of ongoing anti-scalping initiatives Midnight Oil and Frontier Touring have just announced a STRICTLY LIMITED final release of extra tickets for nearly all of the local shows that were previously sold out. Some of these tickets will be available immediately via the usual online ticketing outlets.
The Oils have also allocated a small quantity of tickets for sale via select independent music stores to encourage fans to visit these retailers who do so much for Australian music. Record store tickets will go on sale from store opening today until sold out – you’ve just got to stand in line! Last but not least Midnight Oil also revealed today an intimate performance in Far North Queensland during early October to help draw extra attention to the plight of the Great Barrier Reef. Fans should listen to their local Triple M station over coming weeks to learn more about this unique event and get their chance to win free tickets.
Meanwhile The Great Circle 2017 World Tour continues to make waves across the globe. So far the band has rotated over 90 songs through their live sets with shows regularly topping the two hour mark.
The European leg wrapped up last week after playing to over 250,000 people on that continent including the Oils’ first ever concert in the Czech Republic (pictured). They then made a triumphant return to South Africa and will soon play in Singapore before making an encore visit to North America for some big gigs including The Greek Theatre in Los Angeles.
By the time the Australian tour launches in Alice Springs on October 2 Midnight Oil will have played 50 gigs in 17 countries. The band will be road hardened and ready.

MIDNIGHT OIL announce Sydney pub show!
Mar 30, 2017As promised back in February, Midnight Oil will kick off “The Great Circle 2017” world tour with a ‘back-to-basics’ pub gig in Sydney. The venue: Selina’s at Coogee Bay Hotel. The date: Thursday April 13.
Special guests will be local buzzband Winston Surfshirt whose song ‘Be About You’ is currently making waves globally.
Both of Midnight Oil’s November concerts at The Domain are currently sold out so demand will be extremely high for this legendary beachside gig where the band cut its teeth in the very early 1980’s.
Tickets will therefore be sold via a ballot system to make the process as fair as possible, and to further frustrate scalpers.
If you are interested in coming to this gig you first have to register your interest here:

You can only register for the ballot once – multiple entries will be disqualified.
Successful applicants will then be selected by a completely random electronic process so every entrant has an equal chance of success.
Ticketek will email all successful applicants on Tuesday April 4 with instructions on how to purchase within the nominated sales period. All tickets will be General Admission and will cost $99.90 including GST and booking fees.
Sales will then open for successful applicants only on Tuesday April 4 at 12noon AEST and close on Friday April 7 at 12noon AEST.

- Registration for the ballot is free but it does not guarantee that you will be allocated ticket(s).

MIDNIGHT OIL announce extra shows in Syd & Melb | Extra tickets just released for Sunshine Coast | Wollongong fans - date change
Mar 01, 2017In a measure to put tickets into the hands of fans rather than scalpers, Midnight Oil has today announced additional concerts in Melbourne and Sydney. The band hope this additional supply of tickets in the market will reduce the ability of scalpers to unscrupulously profit from the passion of Midnight Oil fans. The new concerts will take place in Melbourne on Wednesday 8 November at Sidney Myer Music Bowl and in Sydney on Friday 17 November at The Domain.
Pre-sale tickets to the new Melbourne and Sydney concerts will be available to Frontier Members (sign up here) and Midnight Oil Subscribers (sign up here) from Monday 6 March 1pm AEDT to Tuesday 7 March 1pm AEDT (or ends earlier if pre-sale allocation is exhausted). Those who missed out on tickets to the Sunshine Coast show at Big Pineapple Fields on Saturday 14 October will be thrilled to hear that extra tickets have just been released and are on sale now through the show’s authorised ticketing agency Ticketek.
To allow for the additional Melbourne show Midnight Oil’s performance at Wollongong’s WIN Entertainment Centre (originally scheduled to take place on Wednesday 8 November) will now take place on Monday 13 November at WIN Entertainment Centre. Midnight Oil and Frontier Touring appreciate the understanding of Midnight Oil fans on the necessity of the date change. Ticketholders who are able to attend the rescheduled show date need take no further action; their existing ticket will be valid for the new date and their location within the venue remains unchanged.
Ticketholders who can no longer attend the rescheduled Wollongong date are asked to seek a full refund by 5pm AEDT Friday 31 March 2017 via the show’s official ticketing agency, Ticketmaster - ticketmaster.com.au | Ph: 136 100.

MIDNIGHT OIL announce 'The Great Circle 2017' World Tour plus major archival releases
Feb 16, 2017Legendary Australian rock band and agitators Midnight Oil today announced their first World Tour in over two decades. They also unveiled plans to release three archival box sets including a collection called “The Overflow Tank” which will contain more than 14 hours of previously unreleased and rare material.
“The Great Circle 2017” World Tour will see the group’s classic line-up literally circle around our overheating planet for 6 months, starting and ending with gigs in Sydney. Appropriately for a band forged in their hometown’s sweat-drenched beer barns, the tour will begin in mid-April with an intimate local pub gig (details to be announced closer to the date). Midnight Oil will then hone their live show with over 30 gigs around the world during the northern summer, playing iconic venues from Sao Paulo’s Espaço das Americas and the Wiltern in L.A. to London’s Hammersmith Apollo and The Olympia in Paris. They will share festival stages with artists like The Arcade Fire, Sting and The Pixies and finally return to New Zealand after 20 years.
This long-awaited World Tour will climax with 18 special homecoming concerts through October and November, 2017. Given the band’s deep connections with central Australia the local leg will kick off in Alice Springs and Darwin before starting to circle their homeland with a show in the rainforest near Cairns. Over the following five weeks the tour will loop clockwise around the country in mainly outdoor venues including Hope Estate in the Hunter Valley, Victoria’s Hanging Rock and Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl, Brisbane’s Riverstage and the Village Green beside Adelaide Oval before “The Great Circle” finally comes to a close right back where it all began; with a final show in Sydney on November 11 at that traditional home of Australian political activism, The Domain.
These will be Midnight Oil’s only shows in the last 15 years apart from two stadium benefit concerts (and their related small warmup gigs); “Waveaid” at the Sydney Cricket Ground (2005) and “Sound Relief” at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (2009). It will also be the group’s most extensive world tour since their classic late 80’s/early 90’s albums like “Diesel & Dust”, “Blue Sky Mining” and “Earth & Sun & Moon” sold over 10 million copies around the globe.
The diverse spread of Special Guests who have signed up to be part of this unique tour reflect the long shadow that Midnight Oil has cast across the musical landscape. They include significant Australian voices such as John Butler Trio, AB Original, Adalita, Apakatjah, Bad/Dreems, Birds Of Tokyo, David Bridie, Ash Grunwald, Irrunytju Band, Jack River, Jedediah, The Jezebels, The Living End, Abbe May, Something For Kate, Spiderbait, Dan Sultan, Urthboy, and Frank Yamma.

Midnight Oil will also continue their collaborations with local and international environmental organisations including Greenpeace, supporting their campaigns on crucial issues like dangerous climate change and the imminent threats to Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.
At one level “The Great Circle 2017” simply reflects the geographic reality that the tour will loop around the world and then circle Australia. At another level the name clearly implies the planet itself but it has a further meaning too. Sailors, and airmen use “the great circle” to navigate the globe because on a sphere the shortest distance between two points is not usually a straight line. How appropriate for a group who has always been deeply engaged with the world around them but whose career path has never been linear.
Midnight Oil is more than just a rock ‘n’ roll band. In 2017 they will finally bring things back to where they all began. The circle remains unbroken.

Legendary Australian rock band and agitators Midnight Oil announce their first World Tour in over two decades. They also unveil plans to release three archival box sets including a collection called “The Overflow Tank” which will contain more than 14 hours of previously unreleased and rare material.
“The Great Circle 2017” World Tour will see the group’s classic line-up literally circle around our overheating planet for 6 months, starting and ending with gigs in Sydney. Appropriately for a band forged in their hometown’s sweat-drenched beer barns, the tour will begin in mid-April with an intimate local pub gig (details to be announced closer to the date). Midnight Oil will then hone their live show with over 30 gigs around the world during the northern summer, playing iconic venues from Sao Paulo’s Espaço das Americas and the Wiltern in L.A. to London’s Hammersmith Apollo and The Olympia in Paris. They will share festival stages with artists like Arcade Fire, Sting and Pixies and finally return to New Zealand after 20 years.
This long-awaited World Tour will climax with 18 special homecoming concerts through October and November, 2017. Given the band’s deep connections with central Australia the local leg will kick off in Alice Springs and Darwin before starting to circle their homeland with a show in the rainforest near Cairns. Over the following five weeks the tour will loop clockwise around the country in mainly outdoor venues including Hope Estate in the Hunter Valley, Victoria’s Hanging Rock and Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl, Brisbane’s Riverstage and the Village Green beside Adelaide Oval before “The Great Circle” finally comes to a close right back where it all began; with a final show in Sydney on November 11 at that traditional home of Australian political activism, The Domain.
These will be Midnight Oil’s only shows in the last 15 years apart from two stadium benefit concerts (and their related small warmup gigs); “Waveaid” at the Sydney Cricket Ground (2005) and “Sound Relief” at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (2009). It will also be the group’s most extensive world tour since their classic late 80’s/early 90’s albums like “Diesel & Dust”, “Blue Sky Mining” and “Earth & Sun & Moon” sold over 10 million copies around the globe.
The diverse spread of Special Guests who have signed up to be part of this unique tour reflect the long shadow that Midnight Oil has cast across the musical landscape. They include significant Australian voices such as John Butler Trio, AB Original, Adalita, Apakatjah, Bad/Dreems, Birds Of Tokyo, David Bridie, Ash Grunwald, Irrunytju Band, Jack River, Jedediah, The Jezebels, The Living End, Abbe May, Something For Kate, Spiderbait, Dan Sultan, Urthboy, and Frank Yamma.
