Dirty Dancing: The Immersive Cinema Experience

It’s the summer of ‘63 in the glorious Catskills, New York.

Gather up your watermelons. Mushroom Group – Australia  and New Zealand’s  largest independent music  and entertainment company, home to Frontier Touring – has teamed up with the leaders of Australia’s most innovative, live, immersive film events, Underground Cinema, in an exciting new business which will see cinema’s most beloved love story jump off the screen and into the real world.

Launching in March 2019 with three huge nights each at Sydney’s The Domain and Melbourne’s Flemington Racecourse, Immersive Cinema makes its premiere with a film guaranteed for good times! Check in at Kellerman’s Mountain Resort this summer and enter the world of Dirty Dancing.

The story of Frances ‘Baby’ Houseman and Johnny Castle, her bad boy dance instructor, is an 80s cult smash hit and legendary in cinema history.  Now, get ready to step back in time, with all the Dirty Dancing magic coming to life at Kellerman’s – under the stars.

With 50+ actors and dancers on site, enter the gates and the fun begins. It’s 1963: Baby & Johnny’s illicit love story unfolds around you, with a life-size re-creation of Kellerman’s Mountain Resort. There’s no shortage of fun: resort guests can take an activity or craft class, a sporting game or creative on-site pursuit. Taste the finest dishes this side of New York, or try your hand at the Resort’s golf range. Relax in a salon with a delectable cocktail as the sun sets. There’s dance lessons too, from the Foxtrot to Merengue...

• Enter the gates (5pm-10pm) and it’s 1963 – follow the dress code! Dresses, cardigans, summer shirts and slacks. Comfy shoes for dancing. Dressing up is HIGHLY encouraged.

• Once purchased, ticket holders will receive an email from Max Kellerman himself, explaining the various and important event logistics.

• Expect activities to keep you busy for hours; from sport to crafts to dancing. Kellerman’s staff will be on hand to show resort guests the ropes… staff quarters are, naturally, off limits.

• Take note: Kellerman’s is a technology-free resort – phones will be bagged on entry.

• Hungry? Expect the finest in American food – visit the famous Kellerman’s Diner. Delicious cocktails, boutique beers and ciders will also be available all evening long.

• There’s a rumour of a Talent Show taking place too. Time to dust off those tap shoes!

• Grab your popcorn as the sun sets; at 8.30pm the big screen will come alight with one of history’s most adored romantic movies of all time, screening under the stars. This will be a night to remember.
