LETTERS HOME
Performing at: Fringe World, Adelaide Fringe, Sydney Comedy Festival, Brisbane Comedy Festival & Melbourne International Comedy Festival
Between 1947 and 1982, over one million people - the ‘10 Quid Poms’ - travelled from the UK and Ireland to Australia as part of the Ten Pound Assisted Passage scheme. Before the advent of email, text, cheap phone calls and Skype, these migrants kept in touch with their loved ones back home by sending letter and postcard requests in to the long-running hit BBC radio show ‘Two-Way Family Favourites’.
Along with most of the UK, Jeff and his family were glued to the kitchen radio every Sunday lunch, the overly-dramatic and sweeping theme music mingling with the smell of the roast being cooked in the oven. As a child listening to those requests from people living in exotically named places abroad, Jeff would wonder what they looked like, imagining sun-bleached places similar to the countryside he’d seen on TV shows like Skippy and later Walkabout.
In homage to the memories of those separated souls and reflecting on his own experience abruptly leaving the UK 10 years ago, Jeff’s Letters Home will be 10 letters - delivered in this case as comedic monologues - to his family back in Britain.
Jeff Green has become a well-known face and voice on Australian TV and radio since he made his own solo passage to Australia, arriving here for his first Melbourne International Comedy Festival performance in 1996. Since then, he’s added regular Australian TV to his long list of UK appearances. From Spicks and Specks and Good News Week to numerous appearances on the Melbourne Comedy Festival Gala, Jeff is a veteran of colonial comedy.
More than ‘just’ an hour of festival favourite Jeff’s trademark rapid-fire stand-up, Letters Home is a series of warm and hilarious monologues to his family back in England. Now living here with his Australian wife and kids, Jeff is ready to shake up the traditional show format with a tribute to his Chester upbringing, and adopted Aussie life.

Last year, Jeff celebrated his 30th year in stand-up comedy by selling out shows in the UK and all over Australia while picking up his usual five star reviews and gushing accolades along the way. This remarkable new show will still contain the ridiculous, silly comedy that Jeff is known and loved for, delivered in a striking new format that is sure to be a truly memorable experience for both Jeff and audiences alike.
Don’t miss this unique new show from one of Britain’s most enduring - and endearing! - comedy talents, Jeff Green.
