Razor-sharp, yet soft and cuddly like a baby’s blanket, Ron Funches is a hugely in-demand US comedian who frequently headlines shows across the US, UK and Canada. Frontier Comedy could not be more pleased to announce his Australian debut!
Ron is resoundingly taking the comedy world by storm and will be a very welcome international addition to the 2019 Australian comedy festival circuit; kicking off his Australian debut with five shows at the iconic Comic’s Lounge for the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, followed by a show each at Perth’s Regal Theatre and Sydney’s Factory Theatre.
LA-born, Chicago-raised Funches made his stand-up comedy debut after relocating to Salem, Oregon as a teen. Citing Steven Wright, Tig Notaro and Todd Barry amongst his influences, Ron’s loveable laidback stage persona is a perfect vessel for his incisive observations on everything from casual racism to raising a son with autism.
Described as “comedy’s relaxing equivalent of a glass of wine in a fragrant bubble bath” by UK comedy bible Chortle, Ron’s easy-going, inventive style sounds the way fresh chocolate chip cookies taste. Funches regularly performs stand-up on The Conan O’Brien Show and The Tonight Show With Jimmy Fallon and his first TV special, The Half Hour on Comedy Central, was ranked among the best of 2014 by Vulture. Now, with his full hour Giggle Fit (released Jan 4, 2019) immediately hitting number one on the iTunes comedy charts, garnering praise from the likes of Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Busy Philipps, Patton Oswalt and Seth Myers, and earning the distinction of the highest rated Comedy Central special in two years, it’s clear the world can’t get enough of the “big cuddly teddy bear” with the soft voice and biting wit. Giggle Fit gets its Australian release on the 13th of February through Comedy Central.
