Turnstyle
PERTH ONLY
Joining Teenage Fanclub as they kick-off in Perth on Saturday 9 February is WA indie rock royalty Turnstyle. The prolific four-piece formed back in the mid ‘90s, releasing multiple albums and triple j championed-tracks such as ‘Spray Water On The Stereo’ before eventually going on hiatus in 2002 (and again in 2013). December 2018 saw the release of Happy Factories, Turnstyle’s fourth full-length album, recorded and produced by band leader Adem K, with special guest vocals by Pavement’s Bob Nastanovich. Take a listen to Happy Factories here.
Laura Imbruglia
MELBOURNE ONLY
Melbourne: make welcome Laura Imbruglia, who’ll join the Fannies for two shows at The Corner. Laura is bringing her upcoming fourth album, Scared Of You, due for release in March 2019. With latest track ‘Diptych’ on the airwaves and streaming now, as well as the catchy ‘Tricks’, this Aussie singer is no stranger to indie music lovers. Laura’s been releasing music since the early noughties, covering a range of genres from folk to throat-tearing punk, dark country, psychedelic rock and everything in between.
Dallas Crane
SYDNEY ONLY
Often referred to them as ‘Australia’s hardest working band’, Sydney will get the chance to witness the rocking Dallas Crane (‘The Sunnyside’, ‘Get Off The Dope’) in action at the Metro Theatre. Fresh from their own headline shows across the country and support slots for the likes of Cheap Trick and Def Leopard in 2018, these legendary Aussies – who inspired You Am I’s Tim Rogers as his favorite band (Rogers immortalising them in his song ‘Who Put The Devil In You’) – never left: expect a solid return-to-form.
Halfway
BRISBANE ONLY
With their sixth and most recent album Rain Lover voted #1 album of the year by 2SER’s The Outpost, and ABC Radio Brisbane’s Drive program declaring them the best QLD band of all time – you don’t want to miss Halfway supporting Teenage Fanclub at their Brisbane gig. Formed back in 2000, the eight member outfit are high on the critical acclaim of the band’s latest longplayer, co-produced by Nashville art rock legend Mark Nevers (Bonnie ‘Prince’ Billy, Howie Gelb).
The Roulettes
AUCKLAND ONLY
Auckland ticketholders will witness a set by The Roulettes, who self-describe themselves as survivors from “‘90s alcohol-fuelled Dunedin rock and roll bands”. Justin McLean, Ben Grant and Mark Queenin’s latest album is Venus Burns: eight songs of straight up simplicity, no middle 8s, no long songs. Previous EPs You Want It and Unread Books have been playlisted on stations such as The Rock to bFM; check them out here.
