Paul Kelly - Making Gravy

Frontier Touring is excited to announce Paul Kelly will be Making Gravy in Melbourne and Brisbane this December!  Joining the legendary songwriter and his band - Vika and Linda Bull, Dan Kelly, Bill McDonald, Peter Luscombe, Ash Naylor and Cameron Bruce - are some of Australia’s finest musicians, Ball Park Music and Sycco with Emma Donovan & The Putbacks who is opening proceedings at both shows. 
 
The band and I are really looking forward to getting back to some shows again after the disappointment of last year and the frustration of this. We have some extra Christmas content this year and a great line up of artists and guests to help us bring it all home. PK 

Making Gravy will return to Melbourne’s Sidney Myer Music Bowl on Thursday 9 December and Brisbane’s Riverstage on Saturday 18 December.

Now in its fourth year, Making Gravy kicks off the festive season with the music of Paul Kelly’s four decade-long career, reserving a special place for the Christmas classic ‘How To Make Gravy’. Anyone who follows Paul Kelly, knows the depth and detail that makes his work so enduring.  Making Gravy is no exception. 

In perfect timing is Kelly’s just-announced new - and first Christmas - album, Paul Kelly’s Christmas Train (out November 19 through EMI Music) - available for pre-order HERE 
  
The 22-song double album travels across the centuries, from a Latin hymn to well-known carols, from a traditional Irish folk ballad to songs with an unmistakable local flavour, and a sparkling new version of one of the greatest Australian Christmas songs of them all, Kelly’s own ‘How To Make Gravy’ recorded 25 years after its initial release. 
 
On board Paul Kelly’s Christmas Train album is Paul Kelly and his band with vocalists Marlon Williams, Emma Donovan, Kasey Chambers, Kate Miller-Heidke, Vika & Linda Bull, Waleed Aly, Lior, Alice Keath, Sime Nugent, Alma Zygier, Emily Lubitz, Jess Hitchcock and Dhungala Children’s Choir; and contributions from the Kelly clan including nephew and band-mate Dan, siblings Mary-Jo and Tony, and Paul’s daughters Maddy and Memphis Kelly.

Joining the Making Gravy line up are Brisbane’s indie rock / pop masters Ball Park Music. With six studio albums under their belts, five landing Top 10 on the ARIA Album Chart since their debut in 2011, Ball Park Music are one of Australia’s favourite live bands having graced the main stages at festivals such as Splendour In The Grass, Groovin’ The Moo, Falls Festival and more.  Released in 2020, their self-titled album features the hit ‘Cherub’ which has since amassed upwards of 8 million streams and was voted #4 on triple j’s Hottest 100 this year, the band’s 11th song to be voted into the annual countdown. The album has just been nominated for three ARIA Awards including Best Independent Release, Best Rock Album and Best Australian Live Act. Ball Park will perform all their hits including ‘It’s Nice To Be Alive’, ‘Exactly How You Are’ and their just released, brand new single ‘Sunscreen’.

Also supporting Paul Kelly for Making Gravy is Brisbane singer-songwriter/producer Sycco. The 20-year-old will bring her colourful, psychedelic-pop sonics, crystal clear melodies and charismatic charm to audiences. Sycco will captivate punters with tracks from Sycco’s First EP, the EP which features hits ‘Dribble’, ‘Germs’ and ‘My Ways’ has now accumulated 20 million + streams.  

 
Opening Making Gravy at both Melbourne and Brisbane events is acclaimed Indigenous vocalist Emma Donovan and Melbourne rhythm combo The Putbacks who burst on to the Australian music scene with their album Dawn in 2014, continuing into 2020 with the release of their ARIA-nominated album Crossover and in 2021 with their critically acclaimed Under These Streets.  The collaboration was born of Emma and The Putback’s shared love for classic American soul and the protest music of Indigenous Australia.  Emma Donovan & The Putbacks are a tour de force of funk and soul that should not be missed.
